We are a young Danish food company, with a mission to create innovative and tasty, plant-based foods. We are inspired by traditional Indonesian and Japanese fermentation methods, which we merge with local organic raw materials and innovative food technology. The focal point is organic Nordic Tempeh of the highest quality, as well as products made from it.

 

We are focused on offering delicious, green and healthy taste experiences for everyone who has the courage to try something new. Our vision is for Nordic Tempeh to become a preferred source of plant-based protein in the contemporary everyday food.


We take great care in creating well-thought-out and holistic concepts in our product and business development. For us, it is important to have quality, sustainability and transparency in everything we do, because we believe that good business is about both the social, environmental and economic gains. We want to contribute to future-proof food production, where the entire value chain is taken into account.

 

We have been operating since 2019 and behind the company is Sabine Franciska Harboe and Tobias Noe Harboe. They both have a background in the design and lifestyle industry, but fell in love with tempeh so much that they chose to dedicate themselves to this project. It's big, complex and challenging – and at the same time it's fun, exciting and above all super meaningful. We are happy and grateful for that every day.

A CULINARY JOURNEY

FROM COPENGEN TO BALI AND BACK, WITH A GREEN IDEA

Our idea to develop Nordic Tempeh started as an adventure - we packed our bags, sold our apartment in Copenhagen and moved to Bali with our three children, to have an unforgettable experience together. We lived in Bali for a year and a half and it was there that we were introduced to tempeh for the first time.

 

We love good food and getting to know new ingredients. We thought the local tempeh was fantastic and soon started making it ourselves. We started with soybean tempeh, as is the tradition. But later we also started experimenting with all sorts of legumes, vegetables, grains and seeds. It was done with the completely traditional techniques in our small outdoor kitchen in the middle of a rice field in Bali, where the conditions were primitive but quite successful.

 

After a year, it made us dream of returning home to Denmark and starting a local production of tempeh, made from organic and locally grown ingredients from the Nordic region. And that was the start of a new adventure...

 

With went back home and settled in beautiful Odsherred, in the Danish countryside. From here we now produce Nordic Tempeh and CONDIMENTS, while working passionately to put it on the menu in contemporary everyday food!
